Volunteer Programme
The TRCRC Volunteer program aims to promote rainforest conservation and involve communities in environmental rehabilitation. By volunteering and working with and around nature and passionate staff, participants may acquire a more personal and direct relationship with complex and often abstract issues such as deforestation and subsequent loss of ecosystem services.
Participants will also make a lasting impact by helping TRCRC reach its goals. Would you like to do more to protect Malaysiaโs threatened plant species? If so gather your friends or colleagues and join a program at one of our Tropical Living Collections.
Send us a message below or contact ask@trcrc.org or ekrc@trcrc.org

Youth Conservation Trainee Programme
The Youth Conservation Trainee Programme (YCTP) is a three-month training initiative by the Tropical Rainforest Conservation and Research Centre (TRCRC), supported by Yayasan Sime Darby and Ministry of Finance (MOF) for the second cohort. The programme aims to inspire passionate youth aged 18 to 30, following the Youth Societies and Youth Development (Amendment) Act 2019 (Act A1602), with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to tropical rainforest conservation. The programme takes place across two of TRCRCโs key sites : the Elmina Rainforest Knowledge Centre (ERKC), Shah Alam and the Tropical Rainforest Living Collection (TRLC) Banun, Perak.
YCTP provides participants with a diverse range of immersive learning experiences combining classroom-based learning and hands-on fieldwork. Trainees are exposed to a variety of conservation topics including seed collection protocols, nursery care and management, biodiversity field survey, ecosystem restoration best practices and working with Indigenous People and Local Communities (IPLCs).

The Tropical Rainforest Living Collection, Banun (TRLC-Banun), Gerik, Perak has been actively organising volunteer programmes since its establishment in 2015. In early 2026, TRLC-Banun piloted a volunteer-based census and monitoring programme, with two participants in each session.
The programme includes a one-week training and fieldwork focused on post-planting census and monitoring across approximately 26 hectares of restoration plots within the Amanjaya Forest Reserve.
Led by the TRLC-Banun Restoration Executive and Census Assistant, together with the Temiar Indigenous Ground Team (G-Team), the eco-volunteerism programme omboarded a total of 10 volunteers and has successfully recorded tree census data for approximately 4,000 planted seedlings. This initiative strengthens conservation fieldwork while fostering environmental awareness among the public through an immersive eco-volunteering experience.
These restoration and monitoring efforts are made possible through long-term support from Yayasan Sime Darby (@yayasansimedarbyofficial ) since 2021.

TRCRC is proud to be part of the @wwfmy and Procter & Gamble (P&G) Nature Pillar Project Launch held on 15โ16 April 2026 ๐ฟ
This launch marks the official unveiling of a strategic conservation partnership dedicated to strengthening forest and wildlife protection efforts within the Belum-Temengor landscape.
Through this collaboration, TRCRC continues to advance its long-term commitment to working with the local Indigenous community in RPS Air Banun to restore critical habitat connectivity in the Belum-Temengor Forest Complex. At the same time, the initiative supports alternative livelihoods through a native seedling nursery programme.
On 16 April 2026, we were pleased to welcome the WWF-Malaysia and Procter & Gamble (P&G) team to our living collection, where they witnessed ongoing restoration efforts on the ground. We sincerely thank WWF-Malaysia for their trust and support in advancing a shared vision of collaboration between local communities and biodiversity, and P&G for their commitment to driving meaningful conservation impact.
Together, we move forward guided by WWF-Malaysiaโs Living Landscape framework โ Protect, Produce, and Restore โ integrating conservation outcomes with sustainable land use and economic considerations for forests, wildlife, and communities.

Meet the ๐ณ experts! ๐
At 45, Elong from the Jahai tribe is one of many โpakar kayuโ (tree experts) at Kampung Sungai Tiang. Whether heโs navigating the waters as a boatman or identifying rare species deep in the canopy, his knowledge is vital to our reforestation efforts.
But what keeps him going? Watch until the end to hear Elongโs hope for the future. โจ

Power is restoring what weโve lost.
And it starts from the ground up.
From germination beds nurturing the first signs of life, to hands in the soil planting trees for the future. Every step is part of something bigger.
Here in TRCRC, restoration is a long-term commitment that begins with seeds, grows through proper care, and thrives through collective effort. Because forests arenโt built overnight, and neither is impact.
This is what ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ ๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฆ๐ณ looks like:
๐ฑ Choosing to restore degraded forests
๐ณ Showing up to plant native trees
๐ค Working together to protect what matters
And this is how we protect ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ณ ๐ฑ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ต.

As part of our ongoing business plan consultation and validation under the Seed to Tree (STT) Project, we continued our collaboration with the community of Kampung Kemensah.
Nestled at the foothills of Bukit Pao and enveloped by forest landscapes, alongside existing recreational attractions, the session explored how nursery and seedling initiatives can be thoughtfully integrated to enhance local eco-tourism opportunities.
Together with the TRCRC team and representatives from Alliance Bioversity-CIAT, RESCU, and MOAMI, the discussion was both lively and insightful. We look forward to seeing these ideas take shape and to strengthening sustainable and community-driven enterprises in Kg Kemensah. ๐ฑ
